Social dialogue in Cyprus is probably the most important tool for setting policy. Especially in the sphere of work, but also generally in the social sector, the development of policy decisions with the use of honest social dialogue in an atmosphere of trust, remains central to the processes of consensus based policy formulation.

It has been shown in practice that consensus based decisions, particularly on issues affecting organized groups, or a large percentage of the population, have increased chances of success and general acceptance, if they are reached after thorough discussions and the practical contribution of the social partners themselves.

This exercise is particularly successful in Cyprus after having established the necessary structures of social dialogue.
