Every working parent who has a child up to the age of eight (8) and has completed six (6) months of continuous employment with the same employer has the right to take parental leave.

      Exceptions apply in:

      (a) the case of adoption of a child, where parental leave is granted for a period of eight (8) years from the date of adoption instead of the date of birth, provided that the child has not exceeded the age of twelve (12).

      (b) the case of a child with disability where parental leave is granted until the child is eighteen (18) years old
