      Carers’ leave is unpaid leave of five (5) working days per year, which is granted to employees with care responsibilities. A “carer” as defined by the relative Law, is any person who provides personal care/support either (a) to a relative* or (b) to a person residing in the same household as the employee, and who is in need of significant care or support for a serious medical reason. For the purposes of obtaining carers’ leave, the employee provides the employer with an appropriate medical certificate. Carers’ leave can be taken all at once or in parts.

      *relative: child, mother, father, spouse, and includes a civil partner with whom the employee has entered into a civil partnership
