The
legislation on radiation protection and nuclear safety and security comprises of the
Protection against Ionising Radiation and Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security Law of 2018 and relevant
sets of Regulations issued under the Law. This legislation is harmonised with the relevant
European Acquis.
Moreover, the
EURATOM Treaty and all
relevant EU Decisions and Regulations apply directly in Cyprus.
In addition to the above legislation, Cyprus has ratified or signed the following international Conventions, Treaties, Agreements and Protocols (links to the ratifying laws):
Further to the membership to IAEA (
N.21/1965,
N.49/1972,
N.25/1988,
N.27(III)/2011), Cyprus is also a member of the
Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
For the import, export or placing feedings stuff, foodstuff and agricultural products on the market after the Chernobyl accident or following a nuclear/radiological accident, the
relevant EURATOM Regulations apply. The relevant implementing regulations of the European Commission which have been issued after the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Japan, on 11 March 2011, as well as other relevant information, are available at the
