4/5/2020 - General conditions for authorisation through registration in veterinary radiodiagnostic practices

The Protection against Ionising Radiation and Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (General Conditions for Authorisation through Registration for Veterinary Radiodiagnostic Practices) Notification of 2020 (R.A.A. 51/2020) was published in the Official Journal of the Republic of 14 February 2020. This Notification determines, based on article 20 of the Protection against Ionising Radiation and Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security Law of 2018 (L. 164(I)/2018), general conditions for granting authorisations through registration by the Radiation Inspection and Control Service of the Department of Labour Inspection for radiodiagnostic practices in veterinary medicine.

The Radiation Inspection and Control Service of the Department of Labour Inspection has posted in the Section "Publications" a new publication entitled "Pregnancy and Ionising Radiation" (download).



27/01/2020 - Issue of new Codes of Practice in the field of radiation protection

Five Codes of Practice were published in the Official Journal of the Republic dated 24th January 2020, in the form of Notifications of the Chief Inspector, concerning the following issues:

(a) radiation protection of the members of the public;
(b) classification into controlled and supervised areas;
(c) the role, assignment and practices for which the appointment of a radiation protection officer is required by an undertaking or employer;
(d) determination and implementation of diagnostic reference levels for radiological examinations; and
(e) individual radiological monitoring.

07/01/2020 - Consultation in draft Notices (Codes of Practice) for harmonisation with Directive 2013/59/Euratom

For the purposes of harmonisation with the Directive 2013/59/Euratom, which aims to set basic safety standards for protection against hazards arising from ionising radiation, the Radiation Inspection and Control Service of the Department of Labour Inspection has drafted five Codes of Practice to be published as Notifications of the Chief Inspector, based on Section 63 of the Law 164(I)/2018, in the following fields:

(a) radiation protection of the members of the public;
(b) classification into controlled and supervised areas;
(c) the role, assignment and practices for which the appointment of a radiation protection officer is required by an undertaking or employer;
(d) determination and implementation of diagnostic reference levels for radiological examinations; and
(e) individual radiological monitoring.
