Notified Bodies are the approved by the European Committee organizations based in Cyprus or abroad, authorized to carry out the conformity assessment procedures for the product or products they have been approved for, in order to assertain their full compliance with the corresponding Essential Health and Safety Requirements. The assessment procedures available for each product category are described in full detail in the relevant Annexes of each corresponding Directive. Notified Bodies carry out only the procedures for which they have received the approval of the European Committee. These procedures may range from monitoring the quality assurance system to checking the conformity of a model.

The list of Notified Bodies is published by the European Committee in the Official Journal of the European Union.
