Pressure Equipment

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) (2014/68/EU) applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of stationary pressure equipment and their assemblies with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0,5 bar. The Directive entered into force on 20.6.2016.

The Pressure Equipment Directive safeguards the free movement of pressure equipment that fall within its scope while ensuring a high level of safety.

The harmonised Regulations that transpose the provisions of the above Directive are the Essential Requirements (Pressure Equipment) Regulations of 2017 (R.A.A. 130/2017).

The implementation of the Directive is supported by a set of guidelines and guidance documents:

· Guidelines - pressure equipment directive 2014/68/EU

These guidelines are not legally binding. Instead, they ensure that the Directive is applied consistently. Unless otherwise indicated, they represent the unanimous opinion of the Working Group Pressure composed of representatives of the national authorities of the member states of the European Union.

Information on the design of pressure equipment

The correct design, manufacture and installation of pressure equipment often requires taking on board, on top of the requirements of the harmonised Regulations, parameters such as microclimatic conditions and the seismic activity of the area where the installation of the pressure equipment will take place.

The Department of Labour Inspection prepared, in Greek, a Table that includes information and data related to Cyprus pertaining to the design parameters and other useful information.

More information is available, in English, at the special website on Pressure Equipment of the European Union at the following link:
