The Compensation of Victims of Violent Crimes Law
The Compensation of Victims of Violent Crimes Law 51(I) of 1997, entered into force on 13/6/1997.
The purpose of the Law is to provide compensation for victims of crimes of violents and for dependants of persons who have died as a result of such crimes.
The compensation includes medical treatment in Government Hostpitals and Institutions up to CY£1.000
(€1708,60)
, sickness benefit, invalidity pension, widow's pension, orphan's benefit and funeral grant. The amount of sickness benefit, invalidity pension, widow's pension, orphan's benefit and funeral grant is equal to the amount of the equivalent basic benefits payable under the Social Insurance legislation.
The cost of the compensation is paid out of the General Revenue of the Republic.
