Department of Labour Relations
A shop employee is any person who works full-time or part-time for a salary or is an apprentice, with a fixed term or indefinite duration employment contract, in a shop or in relation to a shop. On this basis, any employee who works in a shop or in relation to a shop, is a shop employee regardless of the duties of his/her position. The location of the shop in relation to an employee's actual workplace is irrelevant to who is considered a shop employee. What matters is the employee's relationship with the shop, i.e. the provision of the employee's work must concern the shop.

Therefore, the terms of employment defined in the Regulation of the Operation of Shops and Employment Terms of their Employees Law concern any employee who is employed in a shop or in relation to a shop as explained above. These terms apply throughout Cyprus.
