Department of Labour Relations
The request for parental leave, or the leave on grounds of force majeure is no reason for termination of employment and does not interrupt the continuity of the employment period. In particular, the employer is not entitled to terminate or give notice for termination to the employee from the day the employee requests parental leave until the last day of the parental leave. The same stands for leave on grounds of force majeure.

The employer may give notice for termination during the above mentioned periods only in the following cases:

  • a) The employee is guilty for the commitment of a serious offense or behaviour that justifies the breach of the employment relation.
  • b) The business has ceased its operations
  • c) The period of the contract of employment has ended.
