No. For employees whose weekly days off are fixed and predetermined, if their weekly day off coincides with a public holiday, then their weekly day off is lost and cannot be replaced by another day.

For employees whose weekly days off are not fixed, i.e. every week they have days off on non-fixed days, then their weekly day off may coincide with a public holiday, only if this is justified by the weekly staff working schedule.

Provided that, the employer cannot increase the number of employees to whom he/she will grant a day off on a public holiday, nor grant all employees their day off on a public holiday.

In cases where the shop operates on a seven-day week basis and Sundays are alternatively given as days off, then if a public holiday coincides with a Sunday that would normally be the employee’s day off, then the employee’s day off is lost and cannot be replaced by another day.
