The system of industrial relations in Cyprus is based on voluntary regulation of relations by employers’ associations and trade unions. The right of labour to organise is safeguarded and employees are protected against the possibility of dismissal because of union membership.

Matters relating to collective negotiations, collective agreements and dispute resolution and the conditions governing the calling of strikes and the imposition of lockouts are regulated by the Industrial Relations Code.

The Trade Union Registrar is the competent authority for the application of and compliance with the Trade Union Laws of 1965 and 1996 and the related Regulations. The Trade Union Registrar is the relevant Director of the Labour Relations Department.
