Christmas shop hours from 07.12.2005

ANNOUNCEMENT

THE SHOP ASSISTANTS LAWS
(CAP. 185 AND LAWS 69 OF 1979, 41 OF 1990, 150 OF 1990,
19(Ι) OF 1998, 75(Ι) OF 2001, 93(Ι) OF 2001 ΚΑΙ 35(Ι) OF 2003)

1. Shop hours

Labour Relations Service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance notifies all interested parties that, the District Officers have exercised their powers provided by the Shop Assistants Laws (Cap. 185 and amending Laws of 1979 to 2003) and on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 7, 10 and 11 of December 2005, the shops of all districts can be open until 8 p.m.

It is also noted that the closing hours for the Christmas period (12/12/05 to 31/12/05) will be:

- Monday up to Sunday: up to 8 p.m.
- 24/12 and 31/12: up to 7 p.m.
- 25/12 and 26/12: closed


2. Employees’ working hours

The Labour Relations Service reminds all concerned shopkeepers that according to the existing Shop Assistants Legislation (Cap. 185 and amending Laws of 1979 to 2003), the extended shop hours during the Christmas period cannot be interpreted or applied in such a way that will affect any rights of employees provided for by Labour Legislation.

During the pre-Christmas period, all shop employees can work for more that 38 hours a week provided they have given their consent. Overtime work cannot be more than 2 hours daily or 8 weekly, except for the period between the 15th and the 31st of December.

With regards to overtime compensation, the Law provides that overtime work during half-holidays and Sundays should be no less than 1:2 and no less than 1:1,5 for the rest of the weekdays.
