Chemical Substances

For which dangerous chemical substances permission is granted by the competent authority for their import/export or use?

For the import or export of the chemical substances of Annex I of the European Regulation 649/2012 the competent authority (the Department of Labour Inspection) must be notified. Depending on the substance and the importing country a license permitting the export may be issued.

The Department of Labour Inspection does not issue any kind of license for the use of dangerous chemical products in Cyprus.

Chemicals subject to PIC

Additionally, information on the import of chemical substances in quantities equal or higher than one tonne per year per importer, must be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (pre-registration). This is a prerequisite for the continuation of future imports (European Regulation REACH). For more information you may visit the REACH webpage of the Department of Labour Inspection here.
