What is the present policy regarding the employment of foreign nationals (non-E.U.citizents) in the Republic of Cyprus?
1. The present policy regarding foreign nationals who wish to take up employment in Cyprus is that an employment permit is granted only on a temporary basis and for a specified position, provided that no suitably qualified Cypriot or E.U citizens are available. Please note that this action must take place while foreign nationals are outside Cyprus.
2. Foreign nationals seeking employment in Cyprus must secure through personal efforts a local employer who should submit an application to the Ministry of Labour & Social Insurance. Please note, that the Ministry of Labour acts as an advisor to the Director of Civil Registry & Migration Department as regards the situation of the labour market and the compliance by the above-mentioned employer of the Criteria regulating the employemnt of aliens. Also note that the competent authoriy for the issue of work permits is the Director of Civil Registry & Migration Department, Ministry of Interior, Nicosia.
3. Manpower recruitment is made directly by the employers or through intermediaries, therefore the foreigner should make his own direct contacts with interested employers, intermediaries or employers organizations
